King’s College Hospital

The team in King’s Hospital will look after you with patience and kindness…

On arrival to the hospital

You will be taken straight to the foetal medicine department which is on the top floor. You will be brought to a private waiting room with your own bathroom. The bereavement midwife will see you here before the termination procedure.

Expect to be in the hospital for 3-4 hours on the first day. You will likely be discharged after the termination and come back 2 days later. You will be given a butterfly card for when you return for delivery so you won’t have to explain anything to staff. You might need to call and see what time they will have a bed in delivery which may add extra stress if you need to check out of a hotel.

You will be brought to a private room for delivery.

Staying Overnight

You will have a private room on the post-natal ward where you can spend as much time as you wish with you precious baby. There is a reclining armchair for partners to sleep in.

After Loss

The midwife will provide a memory box and take you baby’s hand and foot prints. The bereavement midwife will visit you. They will also help with funeral planning.

You will likely have to register the birth in person. The bereavement midwife will organise transport for you to the registry office and hopefully will meet you there to assist.

There may be a small admin fee.

Cost

We don’t have an up to date cost figure but you will probably pay your fee after the TFMR procedure. The payments office is on a different floor

What parents say…

“They were all extremely patient and kind. We never felt rushed”

“We felt supported and looked after during an awfully traumatic period”
