UCLH has a high standard of care and will look after you attentively and tenderly
There is a dedicated bereavement team who you will be in contact with before you go. They will give you a blue butterfly card to show at reception to make your journey through the hospital easier.
Travelling to UCLH
In London, you can use your bank card to tap on to the tube and local rail, so no need to worry about ticket machines. UCLH has multiple buildings. Foetal Medicine is in the Elizabeth Garret Anderson wing. The entrance to the EGA wing is on Grafton Way, or you can use the main entrance on Euston Road.
Flying into London City Airport:
Go down the escalator to the train station and get DLR train (direction Bank) and go all the way to Bank station
Transfer to Central tube line (red colour) and get off Tottenham Court Road
Walk north-west along Tottenham Tourt Road for approx 10 minutes, turn right onto Grafton Way and the hospital is on your left
DLR fare approx £3 each way per person and underground also £3 each way per person
(If you are struggling to walk, you can get the DLR to Bank, but instead come out and walk for 2-3 mins southeast along King William Street to Monument station. Get the tube Circle line (yellow) and get off at Euston Square. When you come out of the station, you can turn down Gower Street and then on your right is Grafton Way and the hospital. Both journeys take roughly the same amount of time)
Flying into Heathrow:
Get tube Picadilly line and get off at Russel Square
This journey takes approx 1 hour but is the least stressful route from Heathrow as you don’t have to change trains. Fare approx £6 per person each way
It will leave you across the UCL campus, with a roughly 10 minute walk to the hospital
Flying into Stansted:
Get the Stansted Express to final stop (Tottenham Hale)
Change over to underground Victoria Line (Southbound) and get off at Euston Square
The hospital is around the corner from Euston station
Note: Travel time is over 1 hour from Stansted. Stansted express is approx £25 return per person
Euston Square station leaves you right beside the hospital

Staying overnight
There is a hospital bed as well as a large comfort chair that flattens out as a second bed
After Loss
You will be escorted out of the hospital via a different route. You will also receive updates on where your baby is (such as when they are moved to a funeral home).
The bereavement team will help you organise your baby’s funeral service, according to your wishes. If you chose to have your baby cremated, it will take place in the beautiful Golders Green Crematorium. There is no charge for the funeral arrangements.
Note on cost
You may need to pay an additional consultants fee of approx £3000. This fee is NOT handled by the hospital, and you will have to bring it in cash to give to the consultant on the day.
The fee for the procedure is approx £6000.
Check with the bereavement team whether you will need to pay an extra fee.
However, the standard of care received is excellent, so if money is not an issue and you want to attend this hospital, do not let it be a barrier
What parents say
“There was so much support from staff. They would cry with you. They even got an Irish nurse down from another ward to see us”
On the delivery ward: “I didn’t see another pregnant woman there”
